The Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless Needs Your Support

The Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless is a leading organization dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness, by providing a range of programs and housing options.

Our housing and shelter programs:

Cordell Place - MCCH’s newest program provides permanent housing to 32 single men and women in downtown Bethesda, in a facility featuring Personal Living Quarters, sheared kitchens, a community room, and other amenities.  All tenants receive on-site case management as well as the opportunity to engage in a range of community events and activities.

Creative Housing Initiative Pilot Project  (CHIPP) – A pilot program to demonstrate the effectiveness of permanent supportive housing in MontgomeryCounty.  Sixteen homeless individuals who have been frequent users of the emergency medical and corrections systems have been provided permanent housing and supportive services.  A cost-benefit analysis is being conducted to analyze the cost savings of permanently housing this population.

  • Home First – A permanent supportive housing program for 30 chronically homeless, single adults.  Residents receive case management and psychiatric rehabilitation services.
  • Hope Housing – A partnership providing permanent supportive housing to formerly homeless individuals and families with disabilities. MCCH, as well as Interfaith Works and Stepping Stones Shelter, provide the direct services to 40 individuals and 2 families, while MCCH coordinates and oversees the operations and finances.
  • Partnership for Permanent Housing – A collaborative program with county government, the Housing Opportunities Commission, and private foundations.  As the county’s pilot Housing First initiative, PPH combines the case management component of transitional housing programs with quicker access to permanent housing by providing subsidized permanent housing and supportive services to over 180 households.
  • Safe Havens – A low-demand transitional housing program for 40 mentally ill, homeless adults.  Safe Havens provides case management, counseling, life skills development, and on-site psychiatric services with the goal of helping clients transition to a healthy life with permanent housing.
  • Seneca Heights Apartments – An award winning, innovative model combining housing, services and amenities.  Seneca Heights serves as permanent housing for 40 single adults moving from shelters to independent living quarters and as transitional housing for 17 families who are preparing to move to a permanent home.  All tenants receive on-site case management and social services as well as the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of community events and activities.

Our other initiatives:

  • Public Education and Advocacy - The Coalition is an umbrella membership organization, serving the provider network in Montgomery County through advocacy efforts, legislative alerts, program coordination and educational activities.

Use Your Feet to Lend a Hand - Help the Homeless Walkathon Sat. Nov. 20, 2010

Use Your Feet to Lend a Hand -
Help the Homeless Walkathon
Sat. Nov. 20, 2010

There are several ways you can get involved and stay connected to the issues of homelessness. Find the one or more that work for you!

Register to Walk

Register your family and friends to walk with you at the 23rd Annual Help the Homeless Walkathon, Saturday, November 20, 2010. New this year, you can register as a family, a group, as a virtual walker, or create a team.  And you can make an additional donation in the name of your pet!

Make a Donation

Can't walk? Make a donation to one of the Beneficiary Organizations working to prevent and end homelessness. Your donation is tax-deductible as a charitable contribution to the fullest extent of the law and 100% of your donation and any additional funds you raise go directly to support the Beneficiary Organization you select.

Become a Sponsor

Become a Sponsor by committing to donate $1500 or more to one of the Beneficiary Organizations of your choice. As a valued Sponsor your donation may be matched by 20%, making your donation even more valuable.

Start a Mini-Walk

All across the region local communities are getting together to host Mini-Walks in their areas. Whether you are a high school, university club, Boys and Girls club or faith-based organization, Mini-Walks are a fundamental way to bring awareness to the issues surrounding homelessness while raising funds.

Volunteer at the Walkathon

Everyone's time is valuable. So whether you are answering questions at the Information Booth or taking Event Waivers in the Preregistration tent, you are making a difference as a volunteer at the Walkathon.
