If you've never attended Community Night, this is the year to participate. If you've been part of the fun previously, don't miss this year's event.
The very popular Taste of Olney showcases our outstanding restaurants who offer their tasty treats for very modest prices. You'll have a great chance to try some of our new food establishments. Restaurants who have committed to participating include Mamma Lucia, Rita's, Pho Grill, Cafe Rio, Olney Bagel Bakery and Urban Bar-B-Q. More are expected to sign on this week. Tickets for the Taste of Olney are 50 cents each, most items are priced at 4-8 tickets. If you're reading this and you're affiliated with an area restaurant that would like to join the fun, it's not too late. It's a wonderful opportunity to showcase your offerings, and it's easy to sign up. Contact the Olney Chamber at 301-774-7117.
The Chamber's Business Expo is the oldest trade show of its type in Montgomery County. 2011 marks the 32nd year for this gathering of area businesses and non-profit organizations. The Olney area's business community is more extensive than many realize, and whatever you are looking for is probably available locally. At Community Night, 80+ tables fill Longwood's gym, sharing information about companies, services and products. Lots of free samples and giveaways are available, and exhibitors are permitted to sell their products. The wide assortment of exhibitors includes professionals, service providers, recreational offerings and associations. A limited number of display tables are still available for businesses interested in sharing their products/services with 2,500+ affluent Olney residents, but they're going fast. Whether your marketing efforts are B2C or B2B, if you're affiliated with a business serving the Olney area, here's your chance to show your stuff. Register online at www.olneymd.org or contact the Chamber office at 301-774-7117.
Community Night is hosting a food drive to re-stock the shelves at Olney HELP, our local food pantry. The Chamber asks attendees to bring canned goods, shelf-stable foods or a financial donation to help Olney HELP. A collection station will be set up at the entrance to Longwood. For 40+ years, Olney HELP has provided food and emergency assistance to individuals and families in need. As the demand in our tightened economy has increased, Olney HELP needs our help to continue its good work.
The popular Silent Auctions feature valuable goods and services donated by area businesses. Place your bids on gift cards, appliances, tickets, household items, artwork and other items valued at $100 or more. Your bid may be the lucky winner. If you and/or your business would like to reap the benefit of the publicity from donating an auction item, we'd love to have your contribution. Please contact the Chamber office at 301-774-7117.
Olney Lions Club will offer free health screenings from its mobile van, located in Longwood's upper parking lot.
Community Night is a traditional and uniquely Olney event, combining fun-filled activities with a business perspective.
Special children's activities entertain the youngsters. The small fry can enjoy face painting, giveaways, balloons, special raffle and auction items, and more.
Our very popular Paperbag Raffles offer lots of goodies from area businesses. Attendees purchase tickets— $1 each or 6 for $5—and place completed tickets in the paperbag for their desired item(s). We greatly appreciate donations for the raffles -- gift cards, books, baskets, gift certificates, children's toys, games, jewelry, household items, etc., and the Chamber lists all contributors in the event program. You also may have the completed tickets from those interested in your item for your follow-up. If you'd like to donate something for the raffles, please contact the Chamber office.
Free copies of the 2011-2012 Olney Chamber Business Directoryare distributed to Community Night attendees. It's a comprehensive guide to finding anything you might need or want in the Olney area.
By attending Community Night, you support your local business community. These businesses employ our residents, give back to our local fundraisers, re-invest their earnings in the area, preserve our unique sense of community, and their close proximity helps minimize our carbon footprint.
