Living Longer -- New Realities of Aging


 

A recent study by Stanford University on Aging had identified some key changes in the aging of America.

  1. The older population is growing in number and living longer

  2. Older adults will outnumber children for the first time in history.

  3. People are living longer and doing so with lower rates of disability and poverty.

  4. Increased racial and ethnic diversity is the new reality in America.

  5. By 2030 racial and ethnic minorities will make up 42% of the US population.

  6. One in five Americans age 65+ will be Hispanic.

  7. 70% of older adults still provide financial support for their kids.

  8. By 2015, unmarried boomers will account for 21 million household or 46% of all boomer households.

  9. The number of 75+ households headed by singe women will grom from fewer than 6 million in 2010 to 13 million by 2050.
